About Wireless Broadband Wireless Broadband is transmitted and received by antenae similar to television aerials, or in some cases can be received by an access point placed inside a window with a reasonable line of sight to the transmission antenna. This is then led via fitted cable into your PC, utlising a network card which most PC's have installed as standard. If you possess a wireless enabled laptop then that may also be connected to the service. How it Works Neoeon provide a 1MB per second service, up to 40 times faster than a 56K telephone modem serice, and 4 times as fast as a 512K ADSL, from as little as £19.95 per month to Home Users. The Wireless Broadband service operates on a 2.4 GHz frequency at a power level of 100mW, about the same as a baby alarm and 10 times less powerful than a mobile phone. With two feeds into the Neoeon network we can offer the reliance of a leased line supply backed up with the resiliance of a satellite connection. Security Neoeon integrates 3 levels of security - Username, Password and/or the MAC address authentication into the network. We are also available to discuss any other security features you may require. Installation Information To receive the Neoeon broadband service you will require a suitable computer system with a compatible Ethernet network card (most modern PC’s have them preinstalled) running Windows 98, 2000. NT XP or ME. MAC operating systems are also compatible. Should you wish to enable a laptop for wireless roaming it will require a wireless network card, although new laptops often have them pre-installed. (look for the name “Centrino”). This can offer you the ability to wirelessly roam throughout the network in the Humber region. Installation Details, Requirements and Procedure: The Neoeon wireless broadband service works in a similar way to television, in that a certain signal reception quality is required for optimum operation. Depending on your location, you may be able to access the service without any external aerial or cabling by simply placing a discrete wireless access device in the window near your computer system. If it is not possible for you to receive the service via internal access, then an external antenna (typically the size of a small candle) would be fixed to your building and connected via coax cabling to the wireless access point or wireless mesh router which then connects to your PC system. Once we have completed a signal survey of your premises (if required) we will be able to detail the individual options available to you and their associated costs but as a guide you can be connected from as little as £29.95 for a total DIY installation, through to £299.95 for a full business install including high security mesh router. To view the complete installation packages please go to ‘Home Users / Business Users’. On receipt of order we will agree an installation date, typically within that week, and organise any other third parties which may be required to complete installation (eg antennae fixers or electricians). The Neoeon ethos is to make broadband connectivity affordable for all, to that end we would encourage you to purchase your own equipment for connectivity. On the ‘Packages’ page you will see details of equipment requirements and our prices. If you can purchase a product, or the same product, which matches the usability requirements and is more cost effective we would encourage you to do so. Please contact us for individual product prices. In a similar way to when you have a new phone line installed, the Neoeon
service terminates at a convenient point inside your premises and it
is then your responsibility to connect your PC to this termination point
(eg via Ethernet cable or with a local wireless network of your own) – again,
Neoeon can advise on this subject and arrange for this work to be carried
out if you so prefer |
